Waterview Cluster Trash & Recycling Liaison: Jim Traylor

Republic Services, whose trucks may be marked ”AAA”,  collects trash, recyclables, and yard waste.  Special pickups of large items can be arranged at no charge.

    • Mondays: Household trash and mixed recyclable items
    • Wednesdays (March 1-December 24): Brush and yard waste
    • Thursdays: Trash only.
    • No pickups will be made on Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, or New Year’s Day.
  • Please refrain from putting trash and recyclable items at the curb before dark on the evening before scheduled pickups. Please remove trash containers and any discarded materials that were not collected during the evening of pickup days.

  • Please do not pile trash outside when the weather forecast calls for an accumulation of two or more inches of snow during the night before pickup when it would be buried by snowplowing.

  • Please do not place large items such as appliances, furniture, and mattresses in the common areas unless you have first scheduled a pickup date with Republic Services.  These "special pickups" are usually free of charge for cluster residents.

  • Fairfax County Minimum Residential Recycling Requirements (See http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes/recycling/minimum.htm)
    • Cardboard & Mixed Paper
    • Metal Food & Beverage Containers
    • Glass Bottles & Jars
    • Plastic Bottles & Jugs
    • Appliances (Call Republic Services to arrange a Special Pickup)
    • Grass, Leaves, & Brush (Yard waste is collected separately from trash March 21 - Dec. 24)
LOCATIONS: For locations, please check with your immediate neighbors if you are new to the Cluster. There are also communal areas in both Upper and Lower Orchard Lane that are equipped with large, shared trash and recycling bins. Please dispose of trash, recycling, and yard waste separately in designated bins.

CONTAINERS: Sturdy plastic trash bins, cardboard cartons and sealable plastic garbage bags are acceptable for household waste and garbage. Paper bags are appropriate for items to be recycled. Sealed bags may be placed outside the night before, although this can be a problem. Plastic bags, if left out overnight, are susceptible to being opened by roving animals, resulting in contents strewn on the street. Consider freezing discarded food scraps to minimize aromas that would attract animals. Large sturdy paper bags, such as those available from Home Depot and Costco, are preferred for yard waste. Large plastic bins designated for yard waste are available in two communal pickup areas located on Orchard Lane.

ACCEPTABLE ITEMS:

  • MONDAYS (all year long)
    • Household trash and garbage
  • THURSDAYS (all year long)
    • Household trash and garbage

  • WEDNESDAYS (March 1 - December 24)
    • Yard waste such as grass clippings, hedge prunings, leaves, and twigs must be contained in paper bags, clear plastic bags, or trash containers. Sticks must be shorter than 4-feet long and tied with twine in liftable bundles.
UNACCEPTABLE ITEMS:
Several types of waste materials are not picked up by routine trash collection.  However, many of these items can be deposited at the Fairfax County I-66 Transfer Station, 4618 West Ox Rd, Fairfax, VA 22030, 703-631-1179, http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes/
