IMPORTANT NOTICE
TO ALL WATERVIEW RESIDENTS
FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
WATERVIEW CLUSTER STREAM RESTORATION PROJECT BEGINS SEPTEMBER 2017
Take this opportunity to bring your questions and interests to a meeting regarding “Lake Anne West” renovation project on Saturday September 9 at 9:00 am, starting at the marina. Representatives from WSSI and the RA Environmental Director will be there to explain the process.
Many of you were here when the restoration was proposed and attended onsite meetings to learn about the proposal at that time. Some of you have come to the cluster more recently.
Learn more about the restoration project and how it affects us. All the remaining six upper reaches of Colvin Run are scheduled to be restored concurrently, starting this September with completion estimated to be about the same time next year.
History:
Wetland Studies and Solutions (WSSI), is the company that, in contract with RA, has been responsible for remediation of all streams throughout Reston over the last several years. The entire project costs are provided from a stream bank into which developers and the Airport Authority deposit funds to compensate for stream lengths as they are destroyed by development outside of Reston. The stream bank is highly regulated and required initial approval from county, state and federal authorities as well as from RA. WSSI monitors the condition of the restoration for 10 years as required by regulations.
Waterview Cluster board of directors, with community input, unanimously approved the project in 2011. The original DRB approval required WSSI to apply for approval extensions periodically during the time required to execute the long-term Reston-wide scope. On August 15, 2017 the DRB met and voted to extend the original approval for the third time since it was initiated.
